HOST cleaning also reduces both
cat allergen and mold spores by 80%.

Details of the Tests Represented by the Photos Below:

Soiled and unsoiled carpet samples were tested using HOST and HOST SJ.  Both Bacteria and Mold levels dropped dramatically after cleaning with either products, as the photos show.

Background on the carpet samples:
Soiled and unsoiled (new) carpet samples were sent to us for cleaning tests.  Following the tests, the surfaces of these carpet samples were tested for microbes (bacteria and mold).

Biological Sampling Protocol:
Move a moist, sterile swab over the surface of the carpet to pick up microbes.  Transfer the microbes to a petri dish containing a suitable nutrient agar and allow them to grow.

For Bacteria:     PCA agar, 100 F, 2 days
For Mold:     PDA agar, 70 F, 5 days

Note: HOST and HOST SJ remove significant amounts of bacteria and mold spores from the carpet because of their unique extraction capabilities.  HOST products do not, however, contain any chemicals designed to kill such matter.

The assumption for this testing was that bacteria and mold accumulate primarily on the surface of the carpet.  Thus, that is where the measurements were taken.  We are sharing this information without reference to any health claims because conclusions would be beyond the scope of this research.

Moisture makes mischief...drier is better for IAQ.

Why?  Because of something called Water Activity.  Water Activity is a measure of available water, just as pH is a measure of alkalinity or acidity.

Bacteria and mold can thrive in certain water activity levels, but not in others.  This explains why meat and fresh fruit spoil so quickly and must be refrigerated.  They have a high water activity level, while dried fruits and crackers hardly spoil at all, because their water activity level is below the point where organisms can grow.  You store these items in the cupboard.

Note:  HOST SPONGES Dry Carpet Cleaner
has a lower water activity that crackers!
Here's a chart showing the water activity level of some common things.  Microorganisms need food and water to thrive, just like people!  Food sources for them are all around, so there's not much we can do about that.  But we can control their "water supply".

Ten tips to Improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

Reducing biological in the environment

1.  Fix roof or pipe leaks promptly.
2.  Maintain cooling and dehumidifying equipment and disinfect drip pans often.
3.  Insulate to prevent condensation.
4.  Ventilate damp areas to dry them.
5.  Reduce humidity.  Run air conditioning in humid climates.
6.  If you must use wet cleaning, dry carpets quickly with fans or dehumidifiers.  Keep air conditioning/ventilation systems running during drying.
7.  Clean carpets with HOST!  Five years of ongoing scientific research proves just  one HOST cleaning reduces:
          • Mold Spores by 85%
          • Dust Mites by 78%
          • Cat Allergen by 80%
          • Dust Mite Allergen by 75%
Bacteria and mold are dramatically reduced also.

Because HOST sanitizes as it cleans, you can be certain that a HOST - cleaned carpet is truly deep down clean!

8.  Control dust by switching to treated dust cloths.
9.  Use high efficiency vacuum bags.  You can use HOST Carpet Cleaner with confidence as it is not dusty.
10.  Switch to lower VOCs* (Volatile Organic Compound) paints, adhesives, and cleaning products, HOST has low VOC's too!

*VOC - an organic chemical that gives off an odour.

Remember, carpet is a friend in your facility.  Unlike hard-surface floors, carpet acts to filter and hold pollutants that are in , or enter, the building...reducing the amount of pollutants in the air.  The soil and pollutants then are removed by proper cleaning.
